Manitou Point

Take a ramble through a nature preserve that is home to the national headquarters of Outward Bound. Study the geology of the region as revealed in an impressive series of stone cairns. Walk along the mossy banks of the Hudson River and witness it's importance to transportation by train and by boat.

Loop 1. 2.9 mi, 250 ft, 1:45. Take the white trail to the left out of the parking lot, following blazes and cairns to the stone wall at the far end of the preserve. Descend to the gravel road and turn right, following it back to Mystery Point road. Turn left to cross the railroad tracks. Turn right at Outward Bound headquarters on a grassy path down to the river. Follow the trail along the river, turning left at Mystery Point and then immediately right again at the tree with the padlock, again following the river to the far end of the trail. Return back the same way along the river to give your other eyeball a chance to see the view, or loop back on the trail through the woods for a change of scenery. Return on Mystery Point road to the parking lot.
